The Legend of Naughty Pine

Naughty Pine was born in a log cabin in the backwoods of Maryland.
Well, no, actually Naughty Pine was born in a pine-panelled basement in Silver Spring.
Well, to be more specific, Naughty Pine came up with its name in a (knotty) pine-panelled basement in Silver Spring.

It was born in Arlington, VA sometime around 1991. They began when Scott McKnight was asked to play an opening set for a band at the old Roratonga Rodeo on Wilson Blvd. in Arlington. They had one rehearsal to learn the 15 songs that made up that first set. They continued when the club called up and asked them to headline. They had another rehearsal to learn another 15 songs so they'd have two sets. To this day they remain the band that hardly ever rehearses and only plays when someone asks them to.

They played every six weeks or so at the Roratonga Rodeo for about a year and a half until the Rodeo decided to stop having live music. (Roratonga Rodeo is now Galaxy Hut, a fine restaurant/bar on Wilson Blvd in Arlington, run by Alice Despard, and now once again featuring live music). You could count the number of gigs they've done since then on the fingers of both hands and still have enough fingers left over to play the organ part to "Double Shot of My Baby's Love."

These days Naughty Pine is most likely to be seen at IOTA(another fine restaurant/bar on Wilson Blvd in Arlington).
